Call for Proposals

Marriott Legends at Capitol Hill

Prattville, AL

November 11-13, 2009

The theme for the 23rd Annual ALADE Conference is   CHANGING FACE:  “NO ONE TO WASTE” in Sweet Home Alabama.   As we move into the 21st century, the face of our students is changing, and many students, if provided the proper support, will succeed.   Researchers, like Dr. Robert McCabe, author of No One to Waste believes that “With a population that is becoming older and more diverse, an industrial economy that is more globally driven, and more and more children growing up in poverty, [transitional] education will become more important.”Let’s take this opportunity to meet at the ALADE conference and share our expertise to bridge the gap from mediocrity toward excellence by coming together with other instructors and administrators across the state to participate in workshops, papers, demonstrations, panel discussions, and poster sessions.    Since 1986 ALADER’s have been joining together in a concentrated effort to learn Best Practices to enhance transitional student success.

The conference strands will focus on reading, writing, speech, study skills, mathematics, counseling, and administration.

Workshops consist of very little lecture.  It should include activities for participants.  The leader will work with the group, helping solve problems or develop specific teaching or research techniques.

Papers are presented as oral summaries of research and innovative practice.

Demonstrations involve the presenter showing rather than telling a particular technique.  The presenter models this technique for participants.

Panel discussions are forums for presenters to discuss current issues and encourage participation from participants.  Each member of the panel can present a position, inviting other panel members and participants to respond.

Poster sessions are two- dimensional displays that present an innovative technique, project, research, or developmental program, usually on poster board or presentation board.  The purpose of the poster session is to invite an exchange of ideas among participants.

If you are interested in participating in any of the types of sessions above, please complete the submission form and return to:
